# Status Bar

*The Status Bar at the bottom of the screen provides real-time information about simulation parameters and execution progress. It consists of two main components: the Inspector and Run Status panels.*

---

## Available Components

| *Component* | *Icon* | *Description* |
|--------------|-------------------|----------------------------------------------------------------|
| **Inspector** |![inspector](./Figures/inspector.png) | Displays and validates required simulation parameters |
| **Run Status** | ![run_status](./Figures/run_status.png) | Shows simulation progress, job status, and execution information |

## Detailed Descriptions

### Inspector

*The Inspector panel validates and displays essential simulation parameters that must be defined or corrected before running the simulation.*

![inspector_details](./Figures/inspector_details.png)

```{important}
The simulation cannot be started until all required fields are set and all errors are resolved.
```
The Inspector provides comprehensive validation feedback:

- Required fields (orange): Shows count of missing required parameters
- Error states (red): Indicates validation errors that must be fixed
- Field paths (blue): Links to specific parameters needing attention
- Parameter path (e.g., `[velocity_magnitude]`, `[4/surfaces]`)
- Validation status ("Field required", "Value error")
- Context information ("relevant for: Case")
- Detailed error messages when applicable

The Inspector reports the total across the whole setup. Individual fields carry the same information: where a parameter is still empty, the field shows `Required` or `Optional` in place of a value, so a panel can be scanned for what is still missing without submitting it or opening the Inspector. Once a value is entered it replaces the marker.

### Run Status

*The Run Status panel provides a hierarchical view of simulation execution stages and progress.*

- **Status Information:**
  - Real-time simulation logs
  - Current execution phase
  - Detailed progress tracking

- **Status Icons and Their Applicability:**
  | Icon | Status | Surface Meshing | Volume Meshing | Case Run |
  |------|---------|-----------------|----------------|-----------|
  | ![finished](./Figures/finished.png) | Finished | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
  | ![failed](./Figures/failed.png) | Failed | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
  | ![running](./Figures/running.png) | Running | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
  | ![diverged](./Figures/diverged.png) | Diverged | - | - | ✓ |

  ```{note}
  The "Diverged" status is specific to case runs only and indicates numerical instability in the simulation.
  ```

- **Estimated Time Remaining:**

  While a step is running, the Run Status panel shows an estimate of how much time is left for that step, displayed next to the step as `~X min remaining` (also shown in seconds for short steps, or as `~X hr X min remaining` for longer runs).

  ![run_status_estimated_time](./Figures/run_status_estimated_time.png)

  - The estimate is available for every progress-tracked step: surface meshing, volume meshing, the case run, and post-processing.
  - It appears once the step is actively running and has made enough progress.
  - The value is an approximation derived from the elapsed time and the current progress, so it is refreshed periodically and becomes more accurate as the run proceeds.

- **Retried steps:**

  When a step is retried, each attempt is listed as its own entry in the panel, with its own status icon, progress percentage and timestamp. The log download list offers a separate entry for each attempt.

- **Stopping mesh generation:**

  Surface and volume mesh generation can be stopped while the step is running. The progress icon in front of the resource name in the top bar becomes a stop control: click it and confirm in the dialog. The dialog lists the dependent jobs that are stopped as well; stopping surface mesh generation also stops the volume mesh and case jobs that depend on it.
